Conceptualized and created a prototype of a proposed bridge connecting Qatar and Bahrain.

Developed during the 4th semester of the B.Tech program, this project focused on conceptualizing and building a physical prototype of the proposed Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Bridge. The model required extensive reverse-engineering of the architectural design and innovative material use to achieve a highly realistic presentation.

The Design Challenge: Grid & Sketching Technique

One of the major hurdles during the initial planning phase was the lack of accurate, full front-elevation reference images on the internet. To overcome this, a manual drafting approach was adopted:

  • Image Fragmentation: Available reference images were collected in parts to understand the structural design.
  • Grid Mapping: These fragmented images were placed on graph paper. Using the grid sketching technique, the bridge's correct scale, curves, and structural proportions were manually drawn and mapped out before initiating construction.

Materials & Execution

To ensure the model was both structurally sound and visually appealing, a combination of lightweight construction materials and detailed graphic prints were used:

  • Sunboard Core: The entire structural framework of the bridge was meticulously cut and assembled using sunboard, providing a smooth finish and sturdy base.
  • Glossy Graphic Detailing: To bring the prototype to life, high-quality glossy paper prints were utilized. Custom printouts of the road surfaces, railway tracks, the sea, and boats were carefully applied to the sunboard structure, elevating the aesthetic quality of the model.
